Olympian Colin Griffin was on hand to launch the 2009 SuperValu Kids in Action campaign in Ballinamore Sports Complex recently as he encouraged young sports-people to eat healthy to help them pursue their ambitions.

Launching the 2009 scheme at a training session for Ballinamore Athletic Club, Beijing Olympian Colin Griffin said "Thanks to Michael McGovern and SuperValu for coming along to Ballinamore Athletic Club training and launching their Kids in Action campaign. SuperValu have been very generous in supporting our club for many years.

"Healthy eating is very important for anyone involved in sport because it is vital that if you want to develop as a sports person, you must have the right fuel such as fruit and vegetables and healthy eating.

"I'd ask you all to do your best to support the SuperValu Kids in Action campaign, it is for your benefit so I'd ask you to support the scheme as best you can," said Colin.

Michael McGovern of SuperValu Ballinamore said "On behalf of SuperValu, I'd like to launch the 2009 Kids in Action campaign in Ballinamore. There is a lot of sports equipment on offer and now all the local clubs will be able to collect vouchers from now up until March 31.

"SuperValu also have a fruit drop to the local schools in Ballinamore and it is very important when you participate in sports that you eat a lot of fruit and healthy foods."

From the first Super Valu Kids in Action in 2006, over 2,000 primary schools have registered for the programme annually and received free sports equipment with a value of w3.5 million. As always, the promotion of healthy food and well-being remains central to the focus of the programme.

Each local store owner's involvement in Kids in Action at a community level is a fantastic opportunity to reward loyal shoppers while at the same time investing in the future of their local area. Encouraging adults and children to eat healthily is also an important part of Kids in Action and for 2009 your local SuperValu will continue to give double vouchers for every w10 spent on fruit and vegetables.

To get involved in this year's programme simply contact your local SuperValu store.
