Colin looks forward to 2010
After a mixed 2009 season, Colin Griffin’s preparations for 2010 are in full swing with the European Championships in July in Barcelona where he will take part in his specialist 50km event, the main target. Colin, who this week flies out to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp with the Athletics Ireland High performance Squad, will open his season with the Italian 35km Championships at the end of January and will be hoping to get in a few solid weeks training having, like many other athletes, had his training disrupted by the bad weather over the Christmas.

Colin gives presentation to Connaught Juvenile Squad
On Sunday last Colin gave a short presentation to the Connaught Juvenile Athletics Squad at their coaching day in Athlone, organised by Athletics Ireland RDO Paul McNamara and Coaching Co-ordinator for Connaught Mary Barret. Colin talked to the young athletes about his career pathway from its earliest beginnings right up to his Olympic experience and his goals for the future. Following the talk, as the athletes broke up into their event groups for their training session, Colin took the race walking group for a technique and interval session on the track.

Blog entry - Training progressing
Training has been going well here. The first 3 weeks back I cross-trained with a mix of running, cycling and walking and some gym work. I’ve also been doing Astanga Yoga to try and improve me mobility and flexibility before I get back into doing race walking technique work.

Blog entry - Back training
I am just back into full training this week. This year I tried a different approach to my off-season. After Berlin I decided to keep my season going up to the end of September and maintain a reduced training load and do a few low key races. Other years, I would have finished my season after a major championship race in August and take 3-4 weeks off.
